BATTERY. 12 hours of medium usage before Battery Low. (E71). My phone was plugged in but only charged partially. When I woke up, it had only 2 bars out of 7.
NOTIFICATIONS. One of the best features I love is the notifications. Touching on the top right corner near the battery bar when the phone is in it's home page/menu or the top left corner near the reception bar when the phone is in an application will allow you to see the current time, alarms, connections, and new messages or missed calls. This is very convenient so you do not have to exit out of the current app and can open the call log, message inbox, or alarm window straight from your current screen.
Notifications Window at the top right corner in MenuPIXELPIPE. I learned of Pixelpipe several weeks ago and attempted to get it to work on my E71 however couldn't. Through an installation link I found online, I was able to easily set it up on the N97 and it works very well. "Pixelpipe is a Social Web gateway that allows users to publish text and upload photos, video and audio files once through Pixelpipe and havee the content distributed across over 80 social netwworks, photo/video sites and blogs, and other online destinations." I have it setup so my content could be sent to Facebook, Twitpic, Vimeo, and Ovi.
- Facebook uploaded all photos and videos just fine.
- Twitpic uploaded all photos just fine.
- Vimeo uploaded all videos, however speed up the video and kept the sound the same, make the video fast forward and shorter.
- Ovi wouldn't upload any photos or videos.
This might be an error from the N97, Pixelpipe, or the service providers.
Pixelpipe front pageSKYFIRE. After my last video on Opera Mini, I was asked about another web browser, Skyfire. Skyfire was not as easy to navigate on my E71 and did not same pages that I have already visited that I could go back or go forward to without refreshing. I loved that the Skyfire home page was customizeable to display feeds saved in chronological order. Being that feeds was not as important and the browsing experience, I gave up on Skyfire on my E71. On the N97, Skyfire was already preloaded and I decided to give it a chance. Upon loading into the current beta version, the app shut down and returned me to the Applications menu.
BUGS. When a wallpaper is set, the image would resize if the height or width (which ever is shorter) did not match the current rotation's resolution and would then make the adjacent side of the image crop out of the screen size. There should be an option to keep it stationed instead of resizing. I would love to show pictures, but I can't seem to make screen shots when the screen is closed.
DAY SEVEN WRAP UP. The keyboard is very easy to use and I can type just as fast as I can on the E71, aside from constantly pressing the symbol key instead of the blue arrow. Although only half way through my review period, I can pretty much wrap up how I feel on the device, but will save it until the end to give it fair run.
Feel free to contact me via comments, Twitter (@imPHOreal), or Facebook (Andy Pho) for any requests, or comments on the N97. If you haven't seen yet, take a look at the sample videos and sample photos I have taken with the N97 as well.
